SLO County RACES Authorization Information:
Registered SLO County ARES member stations may apply for SLO County RACES authorization.
Applicants must meet all ARES membership requirements before applying for RACES authorization.
Applicants must submit their RACES application forms to the AEC or DEC (not the County) which include:
ARES Task Book
County of San Luis Obispo Employee Relations Client application form
A photo or copy of their existing SLO County RACES badge
A photo or copy of their existing EOC Access badge
One passport-style photo taken within the last 12 months
Following approval by the DEC, applicants schedule their Live Scan background check through the SLO County Sheriff and pay $87 cash or check during Live Scan appointment. Live Scan background check is valid for 10 years. The Live Scan fee is borne by the applicant and will not be reimbursed.
All IDs and badges issued by SLO County remain the property of the County and must be returned upon expiration or request. Failure to return any IDs and badges to SLO County IT Finance Department will delay issuance of new badges. Expired badges must be returned or a new badge will not be issued.
RACES badges and all other badges issued by SLO County are valid for 2 years from date of issue. Undated badges are already expired. If the RACES applicant has not received a new badge in the last 2 years, their RACES authorization has expired.
The entire process is anticipated to take less than one month.
